The Biggest Upset in American Political History

Just think about it for a second. A 46 year old one term African American senator with a funny name that was born in Hawaii and lived overseas will be the Democratic nominee for the President of the United States. Has there been a bigger upset in American political history? To get to this point, he had to defeat a two term senator and former first lady who happened to be married to the most popular Democrat in the country. Has anyone come from virtually nowhere to come this far?. By early January of 2008, Hillary Clinton was leading Obama nationally 43%-23%, with John Edwards getting 16%. On Jan. 3rd however, Obama won the Iowa Caucus by 8%, sending shock waves around the nation and the world. Obama would go on to win in states big and small and in different parts of the country to eventually win a close and hard fought victory over Hillary Clinton. Correct me if I'm wrong, but has a Western nation ever elected a black man? Come November, Barack Obama could be the first one...ever.It doesn't matter if you are Democrat or Republican, we can all feel good that history has been made. Forty years after his famous speech, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream seems to be finally coming true.
